Even though it’s only July, smart business planners are starting to think about what they want to do for their company’s holiday party at the end of the year. And let’s face it, for a lot of people it can be a decision filled with confusion. How should they handle it? What should they plan? There’s no roadmap to guide them. So sometimes they—with all good intentions—plan activities they THINK will be entertaining, but turn out to be uncomfortable — or worse.
A friend of mine shared with me that one year at his company’s holiday party they had forced karaoke! Seriously! Everyone had to get up and sing a song, and then they gave out prizes, or something like that. Eeek! What a combo — not only singing in public (which some people are terrified by) but being judged on it too! I’ve also heard a story about an holiday office party trivia contest where – believe it or not — the trivia was about the employees themselves! And some of the “facts” were gossipy and kind of insulting. Ouch! That must have been uncomfortable.
But we can’t fault these well-meaning people. They were just trying to create something that they thought would be fun. But for anyone reading this who is on the cusp of making decisions about their holiday party, they are probably seeing the wisdom of embracing the obvious choice for success: hire a professional corporate entertainer.
It seems like a no-brainer. In any other field we go right to the pro, the person with experience in that field. If you need to have your tooth pulled, do you try to do it yourself? (I hope not!) If there is a giant live hornet’s nest inside your garage, do you try to remove it yourself? (Possible, but could be tricky!)
As a professional corporate entertainer I’m proud to say I’ve created successful holiday events for countless companies, and the great results are because of a combination of my years of experience and my willingness to devote 110% to making it a spectacular day. And this underscores another challenging factor for employees who are stuck with organizing the office holiday party: sometimes they have to do this on top of continuing work at their real job, and they can’t truly give the assignment the time it deserves.
Well, relief is in sight! For those of us who specialize in company corporate entertainment, we are actually excited to create something unique and special for you. It’s not a chore. It’s what we do! For myself, my most important recipe for success is customization. I learn about your company, its people and products, and any other interesting facts and figures. Then I work it into the show! I recently created a show for a special celebration for a huge international coffee company. I had coffee magic, coffee trivia, coffee music, coffee puns, coffee illusions – coffee EVERYTHING! Even the owners were surprised at how much material I dug up! And one of the highlights of the show was when I involved some employees in the presentation who had given 30-plus years of service to the company. It was a touching and moving moment, and helped bring the group together with feelings of mutual affection and smiles.
So… don’t pull your own tooth, remove your own hornet’s nest, or get mired in details and confusion trying to plan your complex office holiday party. Instead, sit back and be prepared to take tons of compliments and credit for your wisdom in hiring a fantastic professional corporate entertainer to bring your employees the BEST holiday fun they’ve ever had!
